Your practice result

What does your score say about your CBR exam readiness?

The English CBR car theory exam uses the same pass standard as the Dutch version. You need to answer at least 44 out of 50 questions correctly, which means you can make a maximum of 6 mistakes. Use your practice score as a checkpoint, not as a one-off prediction.

A practical way to read your score

0–34
Build the foundation first
Too many rules and situations are still uncertain. Review the topics behind your mistakes before doing another full mock exam.
35–43
Close, but not consistent yet
You are approaching the pass mark. Focus on recurring weak areas instead of simply repeating exam after exam.
44–46
At or above the pass mark
A positive result, but one pass is not enough to prove consistency. Try to repeat this level across several practice exams.
47–50
Strong practice level
You are showing a healthy margin above the pass mark. Keep revisiting your weakest subjects so this performance remains stable under exam pressure.
Best indicator: several stable scores tell you much more than one unusually good attempt.

English CBR theory exam

Taking the Dutch car theory exam in English

Choosing English changes the language of the exam, not the traffic rules, difficulty or pass mark. You are still tested on Dutch traffic law and on how those rules apply in real road situations.

An important detail for international candidates: the CBR’s regular English-language theory exam is available for the passenger car category (B). That makes car theory the category for which you can prepare and sit the standard exam fully in English.

01
Same Dutch traffic rules
Road signs, priority, speed, safe driving and traffic situations do not change because you take the exam in English.
02
Same pass requirement
You still need 44 correct answers out of 50, within the regular exam time.
03
English is a car-theory option
The standard English-language CBR theory exam is offered for category B passenger cars.
Candidates taking the CBR theory exam individually at computer workstations
The CBR theory exam is taken individually on a computer. Practising both the theory and the way questions are presented helps the exam environment feel more familiar.

How closely do our English practice exams reflect the CBR format?

We build our car theory practice around the way knowledge is tested at the CBR: concise questions, realistic Dutch traffic situations and different ways of giving an answer. The aim is to make the exam logic feel familiar before you sit the real test.

Example of a car theory practice question with a traffic situation and answer optionsExam-style wordingQuestions are kept focused and direct, so you practise identifying what the exam is actually asking you to decide.

Explanation shown after answering a car theory practice questionLearn from the answerA wrong answer is useful when you understand why it was wrong. Use the explanation to correct the rule before moving on.
Practise the decision, not just the answerThe strongest preparation is being able to recognise the rule and apply it to a new situation — even when the picture or wording is different from what you practised before.

CBR question formats

Get comfortable with the way CBR questions work

Knowing the traffic rules is only one part of the task. During the car theory exam you may need to select, drag, point to something, enter a number or choose more than one answer.

Familiarity with these interactions saves attention on exam day. Instead of working out how a question functions, you can focus on the traffic situation itself.

Why this matters
Understanding the interface reduces unnecessary stress and leaves more attention for the actual traffic rule being tested.

For international candidates

Passing in English still means learning Dutch traffic logic

If you already drive or studied theory in another country, some Dutch rules may feel familiar — but relying on experience alone can be risky. Priority rules, road layouts, signs and the way safe behaviour is assessed can differ from what you are used to.

That is why English-language preparation should do more than translate terminology. You need to learn how the Dutch rule works, when it applies and how the CBR expects you to use it in a situation.

01
Learn the rule behind the English term
Knowing the vocabulary is useful, but the exam rewards correct application of Dutch traffic law.
02
Practise Dutch road situations
Roundabouts, priority, markings, speed and vulnerable road users should become familiar in the Dutch context.
03
Train under exam conditions
Timed mock exams help you practise making accurate decisions without overthinking every question.
